The Misogynist Preamble

Something has been sitting with me for a while. It comes from a highly sexist comment made by one of my daughter’s teachers. One that was delivered casually and without a preamble. It stayed with my daughter though, and stays with me. Suffice to say, we immediately raised our concerns with the school leader, who promised to address it. With our daughter, we also talked about the role of language and the systemic way in which education and the economy have suppressed women for generations. Heady stuff for a sixth grader, but she’s super smart and I like to think we handled it well.
